iPod Touch 2.0 – Initial thoughts & wish list

Positives

  • I love it
  • Almost as good as an iPhone
  • Game changing (I know I’m not the first to say this by a long way)
  • App Store is very easy to use (might get more difficult as the number of apps increases)
  • Geo-location was amazingly accurate despite me not having a GPS chip (iPod Touches don’t have one, right?) A friend tells me the Geo-IP guys record SSIDs so if you come from subnet-x with SSID y they can pin-point you pretty accurately (don’t know how true this is)

Negatives

  • Two crashes, one two full hangs
  • First hour or two after the upgrade it paused a lot. Not a crash, you could double click the square button to get a pop up, but I had to reset to unblock
  • Some of the apps in the App Store have ridiculous prices! ($80 for a stopwatch??)
  • The battery goes quickly with all these apps running over wi-fi

Wish List

  • Hulu with offline viewing
  • Things (with MobileMe syncing)
  • Friend Book
  • Google Reader with offline viewing
  • Some way of accessing my music library from places other than home (I’m considering JungleDisk)
  • WordPress app (coming soon apparently)
  • Syncing my iPod over wifi
